In this local guide, I explain what the weather in Andorra is like in each season, what to expect month by month, and when to travel according to your budget, activities, and preferences.

The climate in Andorra by seasons
Andorra enjoys more than 300 sunny days a year, making it a privileged destination. However, our country has two very distinct souls depending on when you visit.
Winter: The white paradise (December - April)
It is the star moment to travel to Andorra in winter. The country is the epicenter of the ski resorts in Southern Europe. Temperatures in the valleys (Andorra la Vella, Escaldes) range between -2°C and 8°C, but at high altitudes, they easily drop below -5°C.Local tip: Book your snow experiences and activities (such as mushing or snowmobiling) weeks in advance because in February, it often sells out.

Summer: Nature in its purest state (June - September)
A refuge from the heat. During the day, temperatures are around 25°C - 28°C, and at night it cools down (12°C - 15°C), ideal for a good night's sleep. It's the perfect time if you're looking for things to do in Andorra outdoors. Here are my favorite routes according to your level:
Route / Activity | Difficulty | Average Duration | Ideal for... |
|---|---|---|---|
Tristaina Lakes | Easy - Medium | 2-3 hours | Families and photography. |
Incles Valley | Easy | 1-2 hours | Relaxed walks, local flora. |
Comapedrosa Peak | High (Ascent) | 6-7 hours | Experienced mountaineers. |
Pal Arinsal Bike Park | Varied (MTB) | Half day | Adrenaline lovers. |

Spring and Autumn: The secrets of the low season
If you want to avoid crowds, May and November are your best bet. In autumn (October-November), the forests turn ochre, and it's the perfect time to take refuge and eat in Andorra's traditional bordas. Spring (April-May) marks the thaw, ideal for photographic routes and peaceful thermal tourism.

What is truly the best time to travel to Andorra?
To help you make a quick decision, here's a direct comparison based on your interests:
Travel objective | Best time |
|---|---|
Skiing | January – February |
Hiking | June – September |
Travel cheaply | May – November |
Shopping | January and July |
Nature | September |

- Andorra in August: Most touristy month of summer with a great family atmosphere.
- Andorra in September: Probably the best month for nature due to the light, mild weather, and tranquility.
- Andorra in October: Spectacular autumn colors in all the valleys.
- Andorra in November: Very quiet and economical season before the big winter peak.
- Andorra in December: The white season begins and the magic of the Christmas markets starts.
Important events by season
Planning your trip to coincide with (or avoid) major events can change your experience:
- Alpine Skiing / Freeride World Cup: World events that we usually host between February and March. They attract the world elite, and the atmosphere on the slopes is incredible.
- MTB World Cup: Pal Arinsal hosts the best mountain bikers at the end of summer.
- Andorra Shopping Festival: In November, shopping streets fill with live music, entertainment, and discounts just before Black Friday.
Local Tips: Common mistakes and how to save
Over the years, I've seen many friends make the same mistakes when visiting. Take note:
- The Roaming Rip-off: Andorra is NOT part of the EU's free roaming zone. If you turn on your data with your usual company, the bill will be astronomical. Plan ahead and buy an eSIM card for Andorra before crossing the border.
- Ignoring customs limits: Take advantage to go shopping in Andorra (electronics, perfumery, pharmacy), but remember that there are strict limits or customs allowances for bringing tobacco, alcohol, and agricultural products across the border.
- Not bringing car equipment: From November 1st to May 15th, it is mandatory by law to carry chains in the trunk or have winter/contact tires. If you prefer not to drive on ice, you can move around stress-free by hiring VTC or Taxi services in Andorra.
- Expecting guaranteed snowfall in November: Although the first snowflakes sometimes fall, snow is not usually guaranteed for skiing until the Immaculate Conception long weekend in December.
Where to sleep according to the time of year
Knowing how to choose your base camp is vital. If you come in winter, look for accommodation at the foot of the slopes (Pas de la Casa, Soldeu, El Tarter or Arinsal) to go out with your boots on. If you prefer summer or autumn, sleeping in the center (Andorra la Vella or Escaldes) gives you all the freedom to go shopping in the afternoon after coming down from the mountain.
