How to get to Andorra in 2026: Route Guide, Bus and Prices

Whether you're coming to hit the slopes of Grandvalira, for a relaxing session at Caldea or simply to disconnect among the mountains, the first question you'll ask yourself is how to get to Andorra without dying in the attempt (or in the queues).

Up here we don't have our own train or international airport, but don't worry, we have the roads more than mastered. As someone who lives here and knows every curve of the C-14 and every bump of the Cadí Tunnel, I'm going to tell you how to go to Andorra in the smartest way, saving time and, above all, avoiding typical tourist mistakes. Before starting, I recommend you take a look at our tips on first steps to make your arrival perfect.

By car: The most popular option

Almost 70% of tourists looking for how to get to Andorra choose their own car or a rental. It is, without a doubt, the most flexible option, especially if you are traveling with family or your group of friends (4+ people). In addition, if you bring your own ski equipment or want to move freely between the different destinations and valleys of the country without depending on schedules, the car is your best ally.

Main routes from Spain

If you decide to drive, you have several alternatives depending on where you start the journey:

• From Barcelona (200 km - 2h 30min): The fastest route is via the C-16 (Cadí Tunnel), connecting directly with the CG-1 upon entering the Principality. It's the one we use when we go down to the city.

• From Lleida (135 km - 1h 45min): Ideal if you come from the south or Aragon via the N-145.

• From Zaragoza (285 km - 3h 15min): All via A-2 and N-145.
• From Madrid (615 km - 6h 30min): A good stretch on the A-2 to Cervera and then heading up towards the border. Prepare a good playlist!

Routes from France

If you come from the north, you will enter through Pas de la Casa (the French border). It's a spectacular landscape:

• Toulouse (190 km - 2h 15min): Via the A61 + N20.
• Perpignan (170 km - 2h 30min): Following the N116.
• Carcassonne (140 km - 1h 50min): Heading down the D118.

Estimated expenses and tolls 2026

To successfully plan how to get to Andorra and not get caught off guard with the budget, keep these prices in mind:

• Tolls Barcelona–Andorra: Expect around €15-18 (one way) if you decide to save turns by using the Cadí Tunnel.
• Tolls Toulouse–Andorra: Around €10-12 (one way).
• Gasoline: From Barcelona, estimate about €15-20 per trip for a medium car. Remember: gasoline here is cheaper, so refuel before returning!
• Envalira Tunnel: It's the salvation when the pass is loaded with snow. It allows you to cross safely for €8.10.

Chains and snow: Don't take chances

Listen carefully: we don't joke about snow here. From November 1st to May 15th, it is mandatory to carry winter equipment:

• Option A: Winter tires (M+S or 3PMSF marking).
• Option B: Metal chains or textile covers in the trunk.

The most problematic areas are usually Puerto de Envalira (CG-2) at 2,408m and the accesses to Ordino-Arcalís.

The bus: The most "relaxing" option

If you don't feel like driving or are afraid of snow, the bus to Andorra is pure bliss. You sit down, turn on the WiFi, and forget about everything. Plus, the buses here are top-notch.

• Barcelona (Airport and Sants): The "Direct Bus" is a classic. They depart almost every hour.
• Lleida (AVE): If you come from Madrid by train, this is your connection.
• Toulouse: Perfect if you land in France.

• Andbus / Novatel: Specialists in the route from Barcelona Airport (El Prat).
• Andorra by Bus: The best option from Toulouse Airport.

Approximate prices and times 2026

Secure your seat! During long weekends and ski season, buses fill up fast. Don't risk being left at the station watching yours leave.

Plane and Train: Combinations that work

Although you won't land at your hotel's doorstep, there are very comfortable ways to get to Andorra by combining transportation.

• Fly direct to Andorra (Andorra-La Seu Airport): It's our small airport. It's only 20 minutes from the border. If you come from Madrid or Palma, it's a luxury. There's a shuttle bus that picks you up and drops you off in the center of Andorra la Vella.
• Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN): 215 km away. It's the option with the most frequencies and best direct bus connections.
• Toulouse Blagnac Airport (TLS): 180 km away. Ideal if you come from France or the United Kingdom.
• The train (AVE to Lleida): This is what I most recommend to my friends from Madrid. You get on the AVE, arrive in Lleida in 2 hours, and right there at the station, you catch the bus that takes you directly up. In total, you're here in 4 and a half hours.

The most premium option

If you are traveling in a large group or with a lot of ski luggage, you can hire a private transfer. Prices from Barcelona range between €300 and €400 for a 4-seater vehicle.

Getting around here: Parking and internal mobility

Once you've managed to get to Andorra, the challenge is parking. If you stay in the center (Andorra la Vella or Escaldes), street parking is impossible or very expensive (blue/green zone).

• My advice: Use the communal parking lots (they have a logo with a 'P' and the parish coat of arms). They are the cheapest.
• Avoid: Parking in shopping centers for a long time, it will cost you an arm and a leg.
• Internal transport: If you're going to move between towns, use the national bus (the "L1" crosses the entire central axis). It's cheap and saves you parking.

• • Move (VTC): It's the local private transport service. You can book it directly from here and it works wonderfully for trips between parishes.
  • Taxi: Available at stops or through the application CityXerpa or Taxi Andorra.

Border, Roaming and Customs: Watch out here!

This is where 90% of tourists mess up. Take note:

The Roaming Scare

Andorra is NOT European Union. As soon as you cross the border, your phone will connect to an Andorran network. If you have data turned on and don't have a special plan, prepare for a bill of hundreds of euros.

• What to do: Turn off data before entering.
• The local solution: Get an eSIM. It's what we all do to have internet without going broke.

Customs (Purchases)

We know you'll want to bring down tobacco, alcohol or that perfume that's a great price. But be careful, the Civil Guard and French Customs do checks.
