In this article

Autumn in Andorra runs from September to November and is one of the times of year with the best balance of weather, prices, and tranquility. September maintains mild temperatures and almost all offerings are open; October is the month of colors, when beeches, birches, and poplars dye the valleys golden; and November is the prelude to winter, with emptier streets and lower prices. In this guide, you'll find the weather month by month, when and where to see the autumn colors, which activities remain open, confirmed events for 2026, the towns most worth visiting, and the best plans whether you're traveling as a couple, with children, or without a car.

Is it worth visiting Andorra in autumn?

Yes. Autumn is probably Andorra's most underrated season: it combines high mountain landscapes at their most photogenic, seasonal gastronomy, fewer tourists, and accommodation prices below those of summer and the ski season.

Advantages of traveling in autumn

  • Fewer crowds. Outside of long weekends and holidays, towns, restaurants, and trails are noticeably quieter than in summer or during the snow season.
  • Better prices. Accommodation prices drop compared to high seasons, and November is one of the cheapest months of the year.
  • The landscape. The forests of beeches, birches, and poplars change color between late September and early November, with the visual peak in mid-to-late October.
  • Seasonal gastronomy. It's the season for mushrooms, escudella, and mountain dishes, with several gastronomic events concentrated around these dates.
  • Still favorable weather. Especially in September and the first half of October, temperatures allow for comfortable walking at midday.

What to consider before deciding

Autumn is a transitional season, and that's its only condition: not everything is open all the time. Summer lifts, adventure parks, and some chairlift-accessible viewpoints reduce their hours from mid-September and close during October; high mountain refuges also close throughout the month. The practical rule is simple: everything in the valley (towns, museums, restaurants, Caldea, low and mid-mountain routes) operates throughout autumn; anything that depends on a lift or a seasonal bus must be confirmed before traveling.

What is the weather like in Andorra in autumn?

Andorra's autumn weather is mountainous and changes quickly: the same day can go from sun to rain, and temperatures vary by up to 4-5 °C between the lower parishes (Andorra la Vella, Escaldes-Engordany) and the high areas (Pas de la Casa, Ordino Arcalís). It is advisable to consult the official forecast from the Servei de Meteorologia d'Andorra before each excursion.

Andorra in September

September is a continuation of summer with fewer crowds. The first weeks usually maintain warm afternoons in the valleys, around 20 °C or above on sunny days, and the typical August afternoon storms disappear. It is the best month for mountain routes and for summer activities that are still operating. September 8th celebrates the national holiday, Meritxell Day.

Andorra in October

October is the most beautiful and most variable month. Daytime temperatures in the lower areas hover around 12-18 °C, nights are cold, and the first snowfalls can appear on the peaks. It is statistically one of the months with the most precipitation, but between fronts, there are clear and bright days that are the best of the year for photography. By the end of the month, the first serious cold arrives in the valleys.

Andorra in November

November is the transition month to winter: cold, with short days and often overcast skies. Most of the mountain infrastructure is closed awaiting the ski season, but towns, shops, museums, restaurants, and Caldea operate normally. It is the most affordable and quiet month of the year. If you are interested in this particular month, we have a specific guide: Andorra in November 2026: climate, temperatures, and the best plans.

What to wear in Andorra in autumn

  • Layered clothing: technical t-shirt, fleece, and waterproof jacket.
  • Hiking footwear with good soles, even if you only do easy routes.
  • For mid and high mountain routes: gloves, hat, and extra thermal clothing.
  • Small backpack, water, sun protection (radiation at altitude is intense even in cold weather), and an external battery for your phone.
  • If you come by car at the end of November, check the regulations on winter tires and chains before you leave.

When and where to see autumn colors in Andorra?

The color change begins in late September at high altitudes, descends through the valleys during October, and reaches its peak between mid and late October; in mild years, it extends into early November at the bottom of the valleys.

The best valleys and forests to see autumn

  • Incles Valley (Canillo): one of the country's most well-known autumn landscapes, with a flat and accessible valley floor surrounded by golden slopes.
  • Sorteny Valley (Ordino): natural park with beech and birch forests; combines color and interpretive trails.
  • Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley: UNESCO World Heritage site and the wildest accessible environment from the capital.
  • La Rabassa Forest (Sant Julià de Lòria): extensive beech forest, ideal for easy walks and for going with children.
  • Surroundings of Ordino and Engolasters Lake: stone and slate villages framed by forest; the Camí del Gall is a simple and very photogenic route at this time of year.

No need to walk much: some of the best stretches of color are in the valley bottoms and on flat balcony paths. For more suggestions in nature, consult our selection of nature experiences in Andorra.

Tips for photographing Andorran autumn

  • Go early: the low morning light and absence of wind provide the best colors and reflections.
  • The days after rain offer clear skies and bright leaves.
  • The road viewpoints in the Ordino and Canillo valleys offer good panoramic views without walking.
  • During the week, it's easy to have an entire valley practically empty.

What activities can be done in Andorra in autumn?

A tall, rusty brown, rectangular pillar stands prominently in a dense green forest, with a tree-covered mountain in the background under an overcast sky.

Paseos a caballo

Which villages to visit in Andorra in autumn?

Autumn is the season for villages: stone, slate, golden forest, and silence. These are the ones that work best at this time of year.

Ordino and its corners: El Serrat and La Cortinada

Ordino is the quintessential autumn village, and its valley hides two hamlets worth stopping at: El Serrat, at the end of the valley, a gateway to mountain routes, and La Cortinada, with one of the most beautiful Romanesque complexes in the country, surrounded by meadows and mills. Llorts and its Iron Route are very close by.

Canillo, Soldeu and El Tarter

Canillo combines heritage (Romanesque, Meritxell sanctuary on the way) and adventure (Tibetan bridge, Roc del Quer, via ferrata). Further up, Soldeu and El Tarter are ski resort villages that regain their calm in autumn and serve as a perfect base for the Incles valley.

Pas de la Casa

In autumn, Pas de la Casa is mainly interesting for shopping: it is the country's French gateway and concentrates a large part of the commercial offer, especially active during the Shop in Andorra Festival. Without snow, it is a functional rather than beautiful village; its charm lies in the mountain journey that leads to it.

These are the perfect days for the thermal plan that the sun always makes you postpone.

What to know before traveling to Andorra in autumn?

Pre-trip Checklist:

  • Check the weather forecast in the days leading up to your trip and every morning before heading out.
  • Verify the opening of ski lifts, the Tibetan bridge, adventure parks, and any high-altitude activities.
  • Book small group experiences in advance.
  • Plan your routes according to actual daylight hours: it gets dark early in November.
  • Always bring warm layers and a waterproof jacket, even if the valley wakes up sunny.
  • If you're coming by car in late November, check the winter equipment regulations.

Common mistakes for autumn travelers:

  1. Assuming everything is open as in summer. No: the closure calendar is the only "rule" of the season.
  2. Choosing a route solely based on popularity without checking altitude or forecast. In October-November, valley and mid-mountain routes are a safe bet.
  3. Starting excursions at midday. With short days, it's better to get an early start.
  4. Not booking experiences thinking that "there's always space in low season." Small groups also fill up in autumn.
  5. Going to high altitudes without thermal clothing. In the valley it might be 15 °C, but there can be winter winds at 2,500 m.
