Enrique Gasa Valga, a Catalan choreographer, presents to the public a scenic production that explores the figure of Frida Kahlo. This visual and emotional proposal is inspired by the life trajectory and creative universe of the Mexican artist. The show integrates dance with live musical performances, by a band led by vocalist Greta Marcolongo. The selection of songs includes prominent pieces from Mexico's musical tradition, such as boleros and well-known songs, including La Llorona, Paloma Negra or Volver, Volver. Tangos and other melodies that evoke the Mexican imaginary are also added. In addition, original music has been created for the occasion, by Roberto Tubaro, the musical director of this production. Through the interaction between movement, music and staging, the theatrical work reviews various passages from Frida Kahlo's life. 14 specific moments are shown on stage, reflecting her way of being, her ties, her desires and the experiences that decisively influenced her life. Kahlo's life trajectory was defined by deep pain, both physical and emotional, coexisting with an exceptional creative capacity. Her relationship with Diego Rivera, her adherence to communism and her love experiences constitute a biography as rich as her artistic production. The setbacks and physical consequences she suffered determined much of her existence and were clearly manifested in her paintings, which often became a kind of self-portrait of her soul. In 1954, shortly before her death at the age of 47, Frida Kahlo wrote the phrase "Viva la Vida" on one of her still lifes depicting watermelons. This statement has become one of the most recognizable emblems of her work. Through this new production, Enrique Gasa Valga invites us to explore Kahlo's world from a scenic approach that combines contemporary dance, Mexican sounds and an impactful visual aesthetic. This creation seeks to transform the artist's life story into an experience that stimulates all the senses.
